AMD will meet in 2010 to enrich the product range they have. Call it some processor servers, notebooks, or the graphics card that will be launched next year. It also applies to their desktop platform named Dragon. Dragon Platform is a combination of several products owned by AMD, ranging from processors, chipsets and motherboards to graphic cards.

AMD Dragon processor consists of the AMD Phenom II paired with a motherboard powered by AMD 790FX chipset, and enriched with graphics card ATI Radeon HD 4870 or ATI Radeon HD 4890. Well, a combination which is claimed to satisfy the thirst of gamers will be replaced with a new platform named Leo.

“Next year, the Dragon platform will be replaced with a new platform that has better performance, namely Leo platform,” said Tan See Ghee, Marketing Director of AMD South Asia. Leo also has a combination of several products that AMD would launch in 2010, namely, the processor code named Thuban which has 6 cores with socket AM3 and motherboard with RD890 and SB850 chipset and Cypress or Hemlock graphics card.

See Ghee also added that the new platform will be very powerful when running the game Direct-X 11 based. “With that combination, the user will get a great experience when playing games that have support Direct-X 11, such as DiRT 2 for example,” he said.

Dissension between Nvidia and Intel appear to the surface. However, this time coming from Nvidia that said Intel Core i7 is not anything. But as we know that in gaming, Core i7 CPU is very suitable, but Nvidia said that it is not true. Intel had claimed that the performance can you get with the Core i7 could reach 80 percent. The phrase spoken by the Intel is enough to invite the attention of Tom Petersen, one of technical director marketing from Nvidia.

Tom Peterson explained that for testing a CPU can be a good or not, should not just try it out until there. “This is not explaining that can cover the needs in the game performance. Believe, if you test it just like that, it seems to be Core i7 can run very fast, but I do not concur that it is called a good game performance“.

Peterson gives an example if he tried Core i7 as options for the end of game. He compares the two systems, called Core i7 965-based such as “Hummer” whiles Core 2 Duo E8400 such as BMW. It is clearly visible once comparison.

Nvidia shows graph from the benchmark test in the various systems that run Crysis Warhead, Fallout 3, Call of Duty: World at War and Far Cry 2 in resolution of 1920 x 1200. From the test, that was said that Core 2 Duo E8400 and GeForce GTS 250 average running at 41.6 fps. And this ratio changed to 42.4 fps when upgraded to Core i7 965, and becomes higher again when running on GeForce GTX 260 so its ratio changed to 59.4 fps.

So it can conclude that the CPU speed is not better from GPU speed, and more suitable in acceleration on 3D so that much faster in the process.

“In fact, when you’re playing games and using the resolution of 1920 x 1200 or more, Core 2 Duo can run well with a variety of games at this time. In real games, there is no difference between the Core i7 and Core 2 Duo, “said Peterson.
